PSP Firmware 5.50 GEN-D3 Final

Recently I just realized that the firmware scene is a big mess since DA left us. I had been faithfully on 5.00 M33-6, but somehow the newer games just wont run anymore at this firmware. The Latest OFW I know is 6.20 now, which I am not too keen to upgrade too.

After some reading and testing, I found the most stable custom firmware for now would be the GEN 5.50. So again, I always provide you the link and instructions if you had been faithfully following my posts.

Team GEN

There is some optional task you may want to do first before you upgrade.

• Backup your whole PSP Memstick (Games and Savegame being hte MOST important)
• Disable all the plugins. Hold R and boot up. (I have CWCheat mainly, but I did not disable. It works for me.)
• Charge your battery to >78% or plug in the power cord. (Ya, I know the USB charge also works, but highly not advisible)

To begin this upgrade, I suggest you go all the way to 5.00 M33-6 first. If you are lost, check out my previous posts. From there, you are in good to go. Get the following file.

Extract it to the root of your PSP Memory Stick. Make sure its ALL. The 550 file in the root is VERY important.
Boot your PSP and run the updater. The rest is just following instructions.
Make sure you reboot at the end of the upgrade.

PSP 3.90M33-3 released

3.90M33-3 is out. All you need to do is to extract to /PSP/GAME/ and then just run the update, reboot and you are good. Of course, make sure you are on 3.90M33 (doesn't matter 3.90M33-1 or 3.90M33-2) first. If not, read my previous post to upgrade to 3.90M33 before going ahead with this.

Changes:
- March33 noumd driver compatibiilty has increased to support games like Coded Arms, Patapon, Harvest Moon Innocent Life and probably others affected by same errors.

PSP 3.90M33

3.80M33-5 is out, but I will not even bother. As long as you are on 3.80M33-?, you might as well go for the latest 3.90M33. Yes, you will need the standard charge up to 78% power at least and plug in to power during upgrade.

Just download the following and put it into /PSP/GAME. Then select it and run. Depending on your PSP set, you will be prompt to press X or O to reboot. Do that to avoid bricking.

PSP 3.80M33-4

I know I owe you guys some update on the new PSP Firmware by DA. Hei, he did a good job ok, and since the 3.80M33 to v4, most of the bugs are (err..ehmm) courtesy of Sony anyway.

So, lets cut the chase and go all the way to 3.80M33-4. Cool?

You will need to have at least 3.52M33 to go on this. Any non-m33 or non-HX firmware will not work. I dun even want to go into the detail how to get here since it is probably going to involve the pandora battery.

Download the 3.80M33.RAR below. I did not like the idea of the so call "easy installer" because it is a EXE afterall and you never know what the program can do if it was modified by someone else. So my release here is plain vanilla. Just extract the UPDATE folder inside to your /PSP/GAME/ Directory on your PSP. Then run the update and follow ALL instructions.

It will reboot and everything should go fine. Next you will need the other file 3.80M33-4.RAR. Yes, you can skip all the v2-v3 thing. Please delete your (now) old 3.80m33 UPDATE folder from your PSP first before copying this one to the same place in /PSP/GAME/. Now run this again. OK with that you will complete quickly because its just a minor upgrade.

Reboot and you are a proud owner of 3.80m33-4 now!

PSP 3.71 M33 is out

With the Pandora Battery and other new technology, even the PSP Slim ROM can use Custom Firmware now. The newest V3.71 is out. Here are the changes :

• Now uses 3.71
• VSH Menu is not longer launched using HOME key, but using SELECT now. This is to not interfere with the XMB function of home, which is now more useful in this firmware.
• Psp Slim: umdcache was allocating memory even when homebrew was launched, wasting memory that homebrew programs may want to use. Now umdcache module is stopped before it can allocate any memory, only in the case homebrew is launched.
• Also, memory is unprotected for user memory usage by M33 core (only when homebrew is launched). Developer, for a sample of how to use the extra memory, see the extra ram sample of the M33 sdk.
• Both version boot now from 3.XX ipl, and are independent of 1.50.

You will need 2 files and do some rename if you download from other sites. I had repacked and put everything into one. I had also stripped off the SDK because most of us will not be using it at all. Just copy the whole UPDATE directory into /PSP/GAME and you are ready to go. REMEMBER to press X to reboot when asked to do so!
